TIDAL, the music streaming platform lead by Jay-Z, has been in hot water. As the service seems to be struggling to surpass more popular competitors, allegations of data and financial manipulations plagued the company. Some of these allegations included buffing the numbers of subscribers and gross overstatements in terms of popular artist’s stream counts. All of this, along with delayed royalty payouts to artists, spells out a dark future for the service. The main accusations come from a Norwegian publication known as Dagens Næringsliv.
As all of these accusations come to light, TIDAL’s CEO, Richard Sanders, released a statement to the website Digital Music News which reads as the following:
“We reject and deny the claims that have been made by Dagens Næringsliv. Although we do not typically comment on stories we believe to be false, we feel it is important to make sure that our artists, employees, and subscribers know that we are not taking the security and integrity of our data lightly, and we will not back down from our commitment to them.
Only time will tell how all of this will play out, but with services like Spotify wildly outperforming all of the competition we can’t imagine TIDAL ever becoming a true threat.
