The Miami nightclub scene has changed so much over the past few years. While LIV and Story are still the places to be seen, all of the trendy music and hottest parties have been going down at Space and its neighbor Heart. It was just named DJ Mag‘s #80 club in the world. That’s why it will come as a shock to learn that after hosting a myriad of epic parties only one week ago, Heart Nightclub announced its sudden closure today.
The Heart CFO blamed the closure on battles with the city and noise complaints with neighbors.
During this past year, the clubs in our 24-hour entertainment district have been constantly attacked by new condo developers, residents and the City of Miami. We have fought a good fight and spent a great deal of money on lawyers but now it’s time for us to throw in the towel. It is quite obvious that our neighbors don’t want to compromise to resolve the issue, that real estate agents and developers want clubs closed as they think by doing so property values will increase, and that the City is less interested in protecting nightlife and its businesses than in the past.
Heart will take some time to decide on a new location or whether to stay closed forever. The battles ongoing with Heart have also been shared by neighbors Space and E11even, as Downtown Miami swells with expensive condo buildings and new neighbors that don’t want clubs beneath them.
