Ibiza to Ban Clubs from Staying Open Beyond 3am

Party till the break of dawn? Not anymore.

Ibiza is undoubtedly one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world for people that are looking to blow off some steam and have a wicked vacation. It’s also home to some of the best DJ residencies and to the most amazing clubs in the world. However, new laws could begin to impact Ibiza’s incredible nightlife.

The local council in Ibiza is beginning to enforce strict new rules that will order clubs to close their doors at 3am. Until now, clubs could stay open until 5am in the summer and 6am in the winter. Additionally, the open-air terraces of bars also must be cleared by 11pm rather than 2am. These are all part of a new move that will declare the popular West End party zone as a special area of acoustic protection.

Mayor Josep Tur says that the city wants to improve the image of the resort, which has been ‘devalued’ by antics in West End where main bars and clubs are found. He said that the council wants to find other ways of keeping the local economy afloat, rather than through “noisy tourism”.

The declaration of the Special Acoustic Protection Zone is expected to be approved later this month and endorsed in February. However, if you plan on heading to the party island, you’ll be pleased to know that local businesses are pushing back on these proposed changes. They’re finding that these new measures are “too drastic”. They also strongly believe that they’ll have a negative impact on the island’s tourism sector.

Personally, we can’t see this new declaration going over too well – but only time will tell.
