The Association For Electronic Music (AFEM) and UK’s leading employee assistance program provider Health Assured, established a sexual harassment helpline 44 800 030 5182. Initially, DJ Mag donations funded this 24/7, confidential support system that’s tailored to EDM industry professionals who need guidance from trained counselors.
AFEM is a trade organization that advocates for electronic dance music record labels, promoters, managers, nightclubs and publishers; Live Nation, CAA, Mixcloud, Symphonic Distribution, Sony Music, Three Six Zero, Red Light Management and Defected are amongst their current 100-plus members.
“There should be no place for sexual abuse or harassment in the music industry,” said DJ Mag Editor-in-Chief Carl Loben. “For too long, predatory men in positions of power have got away with it. Well, no longer. Setting up this confidential helpline for victims of sexual abuse in electronic music is an important first step during this watershed post-Weinstein moment for society, when the #metoo campaign has given many women the confidence to speak out. We all need to work together to end this abuse forever.”
