Two of the biggest names in music took to twitter to show their disapproval of the UK Conservative Party using their songs. Former ‘Sweet Nothing’ collaborators Florence Welch and Calvin Harris had their music played at the Tory conference without their approval. Harris’s song with Rihanna ‘This Is What You Came For’ was used for Theresa May‘s (Britain’s Prime Minister and leader of the UK Conservative Party) entrance.
Florence Welch had her song ‘You’ve Got The Love’ played and was the first to tweet her reaction.
Today’s use of ‘You’ve Got The Love’ at the Conservative party conference was not approved by us nor would it have been had they asked.

Calvin Harris followed Florence with his tweet saying:
“Conservative party conference playing my song was not approved – I do not support nor condone happy songs being played at such a sad event.”
But what followed this tweet seemed a little odd. It appeared as if the DJ was making fun of a coughing fit May had mid speech. Although not directly stated, It reaffirmed us that Harris has a distaste for the current leader and her party.
“Also cough plus grey complexion suggests liver cleanse needed-blood prob very dark -body trying to cleanse but lack of nutrients pls google,” the top earning DJ wrote.
This isn’t the first time musicians have objected the use of their music by the conservative party. Keane and Dandy Warhols were “disgusted” by the use of their music by the party in 2010 and 2012. In addition, the conference itself had its issues. With stage decor falling, May going into a coughing fit, and a prankster interrupting the prime minister the party had a lot on their hands to deal with.
