The biggest debate currently facing the dance music community is whether fans are happy to see some of its biggest artists slide into Pop Music and away from the things that make dance music unique. It was purely coincidence that EDMTunes recently featured an editorial on this topic highlighting Zedd and The Chainsmokers because they are both now nominated for Pop Music awards at the Teen Choice Awards. They join Steve Aoki, Kygo, Major Lazer, David Guetta, Jax Jones, and Clean Bandit who were also nominated.
All in all, there aren’t really any surprises here and even the dance/electronic nominations are the most pop-friendly tracks one could possibly thing of. It says quite a bit that Zedd was nominated in Pop and not Dance Music, don’t you think?  Maybe we’ll see Zedd and The Chainsmokers play a Super Bowl Halftime Show in the near future. Below we’ll list off the relevant nominations for dance music artists.
