The ‘Thong Song’ is Revamped with a Bootylicious EDM Twist
Today we’re taking you back to 1999 when the vibes were easy going and the outfits were tiny…so small in fact that the innovative thong was being praised by the one and only Sisqo! Now, 18 years later, the American R&B singer has finally answered his fans highly anticipated request: he has teamed up with the lovely JCY to remake his classic hit ‘Thong Song‘ with an unexpected EDM twist!
After racking up an impressive 1.5 million streams, the now infamous duo, Sisqo and JCY, are taking the Internet by storm with their updated 2017 version of the iconic video – with no shortages of booty and g-strings!
The upload has caused some controversy as indicated through some of the comments on Buzzfeed‘s post. Although fans are enjoying the dubstep melodies, the video has been slightly disappointing for the audience because the models do not demonstrate a vast variety in different bodies shapes and sizes. “I don’t like it. And where the hell are these so-called ‘dumps like a truck’ and ‘thighs like what’?” a Buzzfeed follower expressed.
That said, Sisqo has tried his best to please as many of his dedicated supporters with the release of the song and video. He stated:
“I’ve been asked so many times over the years to make a new version of ‘Thong Song’ and I have declined every time until I heard the new version that JCY did. I thought it was dope and figured maybe it was time to put some new rims on the Bugatti.”
Sisqo continued: “The only problem was that, in the days leading up to the shoot, everything that could go wrong did. We experienced a devastating loss in our team and we were all pretty emotional. On top of that, I’d just done a show on the complete opposite side of the country where I dislocated three ribs. The epitome of insult to injury was the couple of hours we had to learn brand new choreography for the video right before recording it where in most cases you get a week to learn a new routine. Even though I had to perform in the video injured, I think it turned out pretty good.”
As the ‘Thong Song’ keeps on riding up…my apologies, rising up, there is no doubt that the original will remain a classic forever, even if the EDM revamp doesn’t please everyone.
