Tomorrowland had a visit from the royal family of Belgium on Friday as King Filip and Queen Mathilde visited the festival on day one of weekend one. It was a national holiday in Belgium and the royal couple had just come from holiday celebrations. The King and Queen were taken into the festival through the media grounds and had the opportunity to view the festival from a skybox and backstage.
Marshmello was playing on the mainstage and welcomed the King and Queen with “Make some noise for the king of Belgium!”. While visiting backstage they had the chance to speak with Belgian DJs Netsky, Charlotte de Witte, and Lost Frequencies. A few festival attendees also met with the King and Queen. These attendees nationalities ranged from Brazil, South Africa, Australia, and Canada.
Dutch Journalist Wim Dehanschutter of N News was able to capture a video of the King and Queen observing the festival grounds.

This was King Filip’s first time visiting a festival. Tomorrowland spokeswoman Debbie Wilmsen stated “We are honored that the prince choose our festival to visit! Prince Laurent had been here a few years ago, he is a big Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike fan.” Prince Laurent visited Tomorrowland back in 2014.
The King and Queen left Tomorrowland for Brussels where they observed fireworks for the closing of the national holiday.
