Atari Announces The Speakerhat, a Baseball Hat With Bluetooth-Enabled Speakers
Atari, a company best known for its video game products, has announced its new Speakerhat. This baseball hat comes complete with high-fidelity stereo speakers and a microphone with Bluetooth connectivity. According to the official website, the Speakerhat will be able to connect to any smartphone, tablet, or personal computer to play music as well as receive phone calls and voice commands. Designed to be ultra-thin and lightweight, the company intends to improve upon design and engineering until the technology is “completely invisible.”
Perhaps one of the most exciting features of the Speakerhat is its “Multiplayer Mode,” powered by Audiowear. The patented technology promises to be a “new listening experience” that, combined with “Social Synchronous Broadcast technology,” will allow for multiple Speakerhats to stream a single audio stream in perfect synchronization. In other words, multiple people in the same space wearing Speakerhats can simultaneously broadcast the same music. This would make for enhanced, wider-reaching sound.
Atari plans on making The Speakerhat the first product of its “Atari Connected Life” line. Atari claims that the Speakerhat will fit comfortably, feeling natural and normal to wear, even for long periods of time. The company will also be releasing a limited edition Blade Runner 2049 Speakerhat this fall in a partnership with NECA, a manufacturer of collectibles, according to Engadget. It looks like there may be plenty more to come from Atari in terms of new wearable tech.
If you want to get your hands on one of these Speakerhats early, you might just have a chance. The company is seeking early adopters for its Beta program—you can sign up here for a chance to participate.
