Usually when you celebrate a corporate anniversary, it’s important to go big. When Ultra Music Festival turned 15 it expanded to 2 epic weekends. Diplo‘s Mad Decent Block Party is turning 10 next year, but is actually shrinking substantially. It demonstrates the tectonic shift in the festival market that Diplo can’t bring together a nationwide Summer tour as he has done for the past several years.
This year the Mad Decent Block Party will only take place in Philly and Colorado, with the blame being pointed at the difficulty of the festival market today. In a statement on Instagram, Mad Decent explained:
“Due to the overwhelming amount of festivals and dance events that now exist, talent and venues are limited for an event that is meant to be affordable to the masses. Because we only want to deliver a quality experience in a few markets this year, we have chosen to dial back Mad Decent Block Party to Philly and Denver for 2 special 10th anniversary events.
We put together an incredible lineup for our return to Red Rocks – Major Lazer, Cashmere Cat and Alison Wonderland to name a few – and all proceeds from Philly’s block party will be benefit Beyond The Bars, a Philadelphia-based nonprofit dedicated to bringing musical equipment and instruction to incarcerated and underserved youth.”
The Philadelphia stop touches down on July 7 with 4B, Diplo, Flosstradamus, Matt OX, Nadastrom, Swizzymack, & More. Will you still plan on going?
