Between playing festivals, releasing new music such as his recent single ‘Falling Down‘ , as well as going through some big personal changes, trance star MaRLo has has been keeping real busy. And on top of that he is about to kick off his month long U.S. tour tomorrow. We were fortunate enough to get a few minutes of his time to answer a couple questions about all of that as well as his plans for the rest of the year.
You recently became a father, so for that congratulations! How has your life changed? I imagine work, production, and touring is taking a backseat for now?
MaRLo: Thanks so much! It’s been a whirlwind of emotions being a first-time dad. My life has been turned upside down. I thought with my lifestyle of late nights and little sleep I’d be able to handle a newborn no problems. Although I do think it’s helped, it’s still super tough getting up every two hours. My production and touring hasn’t slowed down at all, though. I’ve just become more focused and spend my time more efficiently.
You are still planning on touring this year however, so what event are you most looking forward to playing in 2017?
MaRLo: I’m touring a lot this year! There is an amazing four-week tour of the U.S. and Canada coming up in June which I’m super pumped about.
In your opinion, how has the trance genre changed over the past few years? With so many emerging artists these days, change must be unavoidable.
MaRLo: I don’t think about things like that at all. It’s a waste of energy to watch what others are doing or what it all means for the scene or the industry. I don’t really care, to be honest. I just keep my head down and work on the music that I enjoy to make and play music from other artists that I like and hope that people who come to my shows have a good time.
How do you balance the mainstage trance sound with that harder tech-energy trance sound you are fond of playing?
MaRLo: I read the crowd and adjust my sound accordingly while still sticking true to the music I love. If I’m booked to play mainstage for an hour at a daytime multi-genre festival, I’ll play differently than I would during a three hour set in an underground club.
Is there anything special you’re working on for the rest of 2017 and into 2018? Can you give us a hint about anything that’s upcoming?
MaRLo: I’ll be launching my own label on Armada soon and I’m taking my own Altitude events worldwide this year! I’ve also got loads of new tunes coming out, which I’m so excited about sharing with you all.
