The revamped venue will essentially be entirely brand new. What was previously a small beach-club style venue with one stage overlooking the water will expand throughout previously vacant parts of the rest of the island. At completion, the new venue will be 6-acres and will feature multiple stages and private viewing decks. Additionally, the venue will now incorporate live music, arts, culture and food—aspects that were noticeably missing from previous Governors Island concert experiences. Last week, RPM announced Hardwell as its first headline act on June 17th, and it is reported that Carl Cox, Richie Hawtin and Tiesto will also take the Governors Island stage this summer.
Summer is fast approaching, and with exciting news like this, it truly can’t come soon enough. One of New York City’s premier summer dance music destinations is getting an upgrade and we cannot wait to experience the finished product.
