Despite the dance music community’s many infighting sub-genre fan groups, there are some things we all agree on. One of those things is that music award shows like The Grammys are completely irrelevant to our scene, since dance music barely gets recognized. The artists and tracks that do get recognized at the Grammys are usually a tiny sliver of the scene that also happens to be the most pop-friendly.
Well it appears that dance music fans aren’t the only ones who have grown tired of the boring Grammys. Reports have surfaced that Justin Bieber, Drake, Kanye West, and Frank Ocean are all boycotting this year’s Grammy’s because they are irrelevant. The move seems spearheaded by Bieber who TMZ reports:
“just doesn’t think the Grammys are relevant or representative, especially when it comes to young singers”
As strange as it is to admit it, Bieber is right on the money here. We all know The Grammys will just be another opportunity for uninformed political grandstanding anyway, so all in all there aren’t too many appealing things going on at this year’s ceremony. Sure there’s that Daft Punk performance, but we don’t expect to see the robots doing much besides gesturing in front of production equipment.
