We’re seriously thankful for creators like Laidback Luke who have been in this dance music game for many years and are still innovators. LBL recently put out a video on Facebook and took us back in his history as a musician. If you have seen him perform before, you can tell he has experience exploring all the different kinds of “subgenres” within dance music. His live shows are always a roller coaster with the ups and downs of energy and melodies, heavy beats and emotions. Seasoned veteran DJs like him are the ones who can truly blow a crowd away at any place in the world at any time.
In a video posted to his Facebook page, he tells us about how when he started off DJing he was playing Techno, a more calm and darker part of dance music. He tells us his first US gig was in 1997 at a warehouse in New York, and that he could not go on producing Techno forever because it went against his “cheesy, karaoke and ballad-oriented” Filipino roots. If there’s anyone who should be able to switch up his stuff without critique, it’s this guy – that is basically what he does every time he performs and it has been working for him for years.
