Artist Under Fire for Mourning His Work Instead of Lives Lost in Oakland

The California landlord who led the Oakland Artist Collective ignited outrage after he mourned the loss of his property, rather than the mass loss of life in the deadly warehouse fire.

Although the extent of the fire’s damage may not have been known to Derick Ion Almena at the time of his Facebook post, the landlord received hundreds of comments from followers of the tragic story, berating Ion for expressing his grief in a materialistic fashion.

“Confirmed. Everything I worked so hard for is gone,” Ion posted. “Blessed that my children and Micah were at a hotel safe and sound…it’s as if I have awoken from a dream filled with opulence and hope….to be standing now in poverty of self worth.”

Protests of Ion’s reaction to the incident took many forms across social media platforms.

Scum Bag FELON!!!!! What a disgrace to America!!!! @JUSTICE“, commented one person.

Another added, “It’s not all about you.”

Police have since confirmed that several dozen lives were claimed in the fire. We are quite sure his lost work is the least of his problems at this point, as a criminal investigation is now underway and charges are likely.
