At the WSJ.D Live conference in Laguna Beach, CA, Spotify’s Global Head of Creator Services, Troy Carter, discussed the current state of the music streaming industry.

Within this current industry, we’ve seen a number of occasions in which new tracks or albums are released exclusively on one particular platform or another. Carter gave a very interesting stance on this concept, which is practiced by both TIDAL and Apple:

“We don’t believe that it is good for the artist. We are not partaking in that game.”

Interestingly enough, streaming exclusives may indeed draw more listeners to that particular platform, though it does beg to question how much revenue and attention it brings to the artist. One thing, however, is for sure: Spotify will not partake in exclusives like some of its competitors.
