Drama struck Kygo and his team ahead of his landmark Hollywood Bowl performance yesterday (and today’s doubleheader), as collaborator and singer songwriter Maty Noyes was abandoned and shunned from the evening; manager Myles Shear and co allegedly denied Noyes her performance for missing a single show previously during the tour due to illness. Noyes has been on Kygo’s worldwide tour, performing their track “Stay” for free, and was unable to justify silence as she was relieved of duty for what would be a milestone show for the young talent.
“…it’s sad to think I can’t even sing the song that I WROTE & has over 330 million plays.”
Noyes took to social media, namely Instagram, to voice her frustration, disappointment, and disgust with the situation and the treatment of women in the industry, stating: “I’m sick of dealing with these sexist pigs in the industry. Im standing up for myself,” and “It’s time to move on from doing favors for [Kygo] and focus on myself.” Her post brings into question both broad scale issues plaguing women working in the music and draws attention to Myles Shear’s managerial practices, and Kygo’s apparent ambivalence to the artist(s) he’s worked with. The Hollywood Bowl show last night went down as a grand success, as will this evening’s, but their successes are numbed by this unfortunate event and dull what should have been a shining memory for all.
