What do Skrillex and Pop-R&B have in common? Bruno Mars’s latest album. The two have been in the studio working on Bruno Mars album since at least April 2016, and many are wondering…what will this collaboration sound like?
Skrillex hints at the unorthodox sound of this collaboration in an interview with Billboard, “What we’re doing is so fucking different, awesome and next level and sounds like nothing else that’s happened before.”
Skrillex has already proven himself a producer worthy of the radio, with his two hugely popular collaborations with Justin Bieber. Although, one could say those collaborations made sense; Skrillex and Biebs had a potentially cooperative sound, and it absolutely paid off. But how the hell will Skrillex’s dubstep and EDM background mesh with Bruno Mars and his undeniable love for that funk and R&B sound?
In a recent interview with Complex, Skrillex discusses his openness to collaboration and exploration of new sounds. “I’m joining him for his album. Who knows if I’ll do something that’s more of a Skrillex thing with him, but he has a vision for his album, and I’m helping him produce it on some of the songs, It’s incredible. He’s my favorite songwriter to work with, and he’s the most fun guy to be in the studio with.”
Today, Mars dropped the first single and title track from his new album 24K Magic. Unfortunately, this is not one of Skrillex’s productions, but it does give us a taste of what the album will sound like.
