At least eight people were killed in a stampede at an Angolan Music Festival this weekend, according to eNews Channel Africa. The stampede at the Afro-Music Channel festival in Benguela, Angola began where festival doors had been locked, a witness said.
Benguela police issued a statement confirming the eight deaths, but the exact causes of death have yet to be determined. However, Nelson Sul, an Angolan journalist who attended the event, said there could be more deaths than confirmed. “There are more bodies in morgues in the city,” he said. “The criminal investigation service told me that the death toll was 20”. Sul also explained the stampede was caused by a rush of panic when police entered to “look for criminals”.
The investigation is ongoing.
