By now if you haven’t heard there is new drug in America called Kratom. It is plant based and said to give a calming high similar to opiates. Use of Kratom has become more popular in America and it is gaining attention because the federal government has now decided to make it a Schedule 1 Drug.
If a drug is Schedule 1 then it is defined to have no current medical use and a high potential for abuse. To some Kratom is not that, several times it has been shown to help recovering opiate addicts, treat pain, combat depression and anxiety and more. Also any deaths involving Kratom have been instances where other drugs were mixed in and not just Kratom alone. A petition has been started on the internet to stop this from becoming a Schedule 1 Drug so people using it for its benefits can continue to do so.
