Common knowledge tells us that many DJs nowadays do not play 100% of their shows live. Songs are chosen in advance and then the producer either has the freedom to play the set as it is or improvise on the spot. For Sam Vogel, aka JAUZ, this topic is as relevant as ever. After performing at Lollapalooza this past weekend, the young artist shared a highlight video of his set followed by a statement regarding pre-planned sets and the last-minute improvised show he performed at the Chicago festival. He states that it is not wrong to play sets that were predetermined, but Laidback Luke spoke out about the importance of learning the DJing art. Both artists were very cordial and did not indicate any signs of aggression. Read their statements below.
@Jauzofficial I don’t even know what this means. You actually plan a set track by track out pre-hand? Or you forgot the selection of tracks

@Jauzofficial Cause if it’s a fully pre-planned set, you got balls to come out clean like this, but it’s absolutely not the way to perform.

Let me start by saying I love @Jauzofficial As a dude and producer. But let me give some of you some tips to become more confident DJing.

Just like producing, DJing requires a lot of learning. There’s a ton of theory involved which will benefit you, just like producing.

It’s a shame that a lot of DJing producers, don’t stick enough time into developing DJing. It’s fun and so much more powerful!

So right now there’s a ton of basic producer performers out. And a ton of bedroom DJs who could smoke you but never get a chance.

@Jauzofficial Good to hear that! Way to go. You fired up a nice discussion there!
