Christopher Louie has been deeply involved with rave culture and the electronic dance music scene in general for a long time, which led him to writing and directing the soon-to-be-released EDM biopic, XOXO. With the August 26th release date quickly approaching, Louie has taken the opportunity to share his thoughts on the production process and giving us more details about his background in the culture.
Louie grew up going to raves as a teenager in San Bernardino. His passion for dance music led him into DJing and eventually music video directing. In 2012 when the dance music got big again, Louie had the idea to make a fictional movie about the scene, envisioning “Dazed and Confused set at a rave”. XOXO took 3 years to make, and the crew snuck into 3 separate festivals to shoot scenes for the movie. The production process was long and arduous but Louie is undoubtedly thrilled with the final result.
