The battle of the streaming services continues – and it’s turning into a true dog-eat-dog scenario. According to sources, the ever-dominant, try-hard Apple is in early conversations with rap legend Jay Z‘s infamous Tidal about purchasing the platform. The Wall Street Journal reported today that the sources claim these exploratory talks are ongoing and may not result in a deal.
These rumors come as part of the ongoing battle between music services, and Apple is fighting for more exclusives similar to what Tidal has been able to secure, such as the exclusive release and streaming rights for Beyonce’s “Lemonade” and Kanye West’s “Life of Pablo.” Tidal also holds its own in the celebrity world – it was purchased by Jay Z in March 2015 for $56 million, then added a mega-stacked list of co-owners: Alicia Keys, Calvin Harris, Daft Punk, Beyonce, Usher and Madonna to name a few.
This would be an interesting move on Apple’s part in their attempt to make a name for their own in the music streaming world – and you’d be able to save yourself $10 a month by not having to pay for both services. It may leave a number of Spotify users questioning where their loyalties lie as it becomes a two-on-one attack – but only time will tell. Let the good music prevail!
