Save for perhaps Idris Elba’s TV Movie, How Dance Music Changed the World, EDM hasn’t really had a successful time in Hollywood. Or really on screen in general. We Are Your Friends had one of the worst opening weekends of all time. Ever. In the history of film. So it’s safe to say people aren’t really keen on touching EDM as a focal point for a movie right now. Unless your Netflix. The growing entertainment service has seen massive success in its own original series like House of Cards and Orange is the New Black, and has begun building the proper network to tackle basically anything put in front of them. That network apparently includes Pete Tong, long time dance music pioneer and legend, who has been hired to co-produce and music supervise Netflix’s EDM movie: XOXO.
“XOXO follows six strangers whose lives collide in one frenetic, dream-chasing, hopelessly romantic night.”
It remains to be seen how believable and relatable the story is, as we follow our protagonist on a last ditch effort to save his career at a North American massive festival, with what should be a crazy journey along the way. One thing’s for sure, with Tong at the helm, the authenticity of the tunes involved should be spot on. His past supervision work includes his very own All Gone Pete Tong radio show, 24 Hour Party People, the legendary BBC Radio 1 Essential Mixes and many more.
XOXO is set for a release date of August 26, 2016.
