Every summer, Central Park’s Summerstage hosts a variety of concerts with proceeds going to powering an additional free concert series throughout the summer. This season of Summerstage kicked off earlier this month with two consecutive performances from Cage the Elephant followed by an epic Wednesday night performance from English duo Gorgon City and drum n’ bass titans Rudimental.
The small outdoor venue nestled within Central Park was packed from the moment the gates opened in anticipation of these two acts. A chilly NYC evening quickly warmed up with an inspiring performance from Gorgon City full band performance. The rain began to fall as Rudimental took the stage, but that wasn’t stopping the packed crowd from dancing their hearts out. Rudimental hit all their classics including “Free,” “Bloodstream,” “Lay it All On Me,” and “Common Emotion.”
The vibes persisted throughout the evening and there wasn’t an unhappy face to be found. Rudimental and Gorgon City certainly set the bar high for the performers who will follow. If you happen to find yourself in New York City this summer, Summestage is definitely worth checking out.
