“Why is it so lit on a Monday,” asked a Bay Area local as bass tore down XS nightclub in Vegas at 2AM. If I was to summarize the night in one quote, that would be it. Dressed in all white including a pair of $900 Buscemi sneakers, the masked phenom took the stage at arguably the top nightclub in the world a little after midnight to begin his residency. Marshmello has officially lived up to the hype by earning a spot on the star studded XS nightclub roster.
Dave Fogg, one of the best in-house DJs I’ve heard in my time, steps off the stage and the lights completely go out. All you can see is flashing lights from his helmet as Marshello is crouched down while the MC gives a grand introduction. The allure of the mysterious figure created a superhero-esk anticipation that you can just feel in the air. Marshello’s identity doesn’t matter because his genre blurring set is banging from opening song to closing. His remix with Jauz of Duke Dumont’s “Need U” turned the club upside down, then things turned a little rachet (in a good way) when getting into a collection of hits from rapper Future.
It’s about 1:30AM and someone gets on the mic, Diplo appears side by side with Marshello congratulating him on the residency. Screams from the crowd almost drown out the music. Then, the rest of the Major Lazer crew steps inside the DJ booth in support of the already epic night. Jillionaire was celebrating his birthday along side Moe Shalizi, manager of Marshmello. The crew from Nas’ sneaker boutique 12AMRun were present, too. There was no shortage of guest appearances. Whether it’s a festival set or nightclub set, Marshello brings the vibes and doesn’t disappoint. Join the Mellogang next time at XS on May 8th, you won’t regret it.
