On April 4th, iHeartRadio held its 3rd annual music awards show which featured performances from both well-established artists and fresh talent. Jason Derulo and Chris Brown shared the stage with up-and-coming solo artist ZAYN, formerly of One Direction, and DNCE. But although it does sound like a wonderful night of singing, that is not the main reason we are here.
Electronic music and top 40 music may have different elements and styles, but one thing they can both agree on is good music. Two of EDM’s biggest names came out on top with their respectively massive songs. Calvin Harris snagged the title of “Dance Artist of the Year” while Jack Ü reigned in the award for “Dance Song of the Year” for “Where Are Ü Now” with Justin Bieber. Although these were the only categories dedicated to dance music, it is important to acknowledge that our community has many other awards to look forward to. Still, it is nice to see that EDM artists are being recognized, and maybe one day they will be dominating awards shows.
