According to the owners of a property in Port Townsend, Washington, the value of their record collection that went up in flames last weekend was roughly $100,000. Bill Beezley, spokesman for East Jefferson Fire-Rescure, reported that the fire was discovered around 10:30pm on Saturday night. When the fire department arrived, the 500 square-foot garage was fully engulfed in flames. Thankfully, no one was injured in fire, but the owners of the garage claim to have lost their collection of about 20,000 vinyl records. Unfortunately, they did not have insurance.
The fire took 40 minutes to get under control. As rotten luck would have it, firefighters had difficulty controlling the blaze due to the limited availability of fire hydrants in the area. The cause of the fire remains unknown. We hope that passionate record collectors will insure their stash, or, at least, store them in a place with a local water supply in case they catch fire.
