Imad Royal, formerly known as just Royal, has released his first original of the year – ‘Down For Whatever’. This one features New Orleans singer/rapper Pell, crooning a melancholic, diffused top line over Royal’s always bubbly, tuned in production. ‘Down For Whatever’ builds upon the 2016 trend of mixing in hip-hop and R&B with electronic music production, and the result here is a good one. It’s nice to see this style grow outside the realm of bootlegs and remixes, and Royal is undoubtedly furthering its legitimacy with this stellar original. ‘Down For Whatever’ is out now via Nice Life (Atlantic).
