David Bowie- Space Oddity (Lido’s Salute)
Four days ago, the music world lost a legend in David Bowie, one of the most influential musicians in recent memory. Two days before his death, Bowie released his 25th studio album Blackstar fittingly leaving the world in a bold expression of artistic creativity. Although Bowie was able to commemorate his own death through his own music, that hasn’t stopped other artists from trying as well. Lido just released a beautiful tribute to Bowie titled “Space Oddity (Lido’s Salute)“. The track reimagines and modernizes David Bowie’s 1969 single, “Space Oddity”, which was his first UK No. 1 single and is often thought to be his most iconic song.
Lido’s salute to David Bowie begins in a similar structure as the original, building subtly at first with Lido’s psychedelic celestial synths modernizing Bowie’s instrumental. After Lido’s soulful and melancholy vocals kick in, a euphoric bath of sunny bass engulfs the listener, seemingly escorting Bowie up on his ascension to heaven. Lido maintains this angelic vibe throughout, continuously elevating its raw emotional impact towards astronomical heights. As could be expected from a true musician such as Lido, his poignant tribute to the legendary David Bowie was all parts respectful, beautiful and innovative.
