Snapchat was launched in September 2011 and since then, the app has been changing for good, as the owners (Bobby Murphy & Evan Spiegel) rejected a $1 Billion offer from Facebook to prove that big things are coming. A hint of that was the launch of Discover, a media play service with Snapchat’s essence. Companies like iHeartRadio, MTV and BuzzFeed joined the new story-based service to promote their content and offer a new informative option.
Snapchat kicked off a new channel named “Spotlight” to highlight the best of each genre this year. EDM started it out, and it featured an exclusive interview with Jack Ü and a live performance from The Chainsmokers. The Story also had backstage videos with Kaskade and Flume, 60 Seconds with Big Gigantic at Red Rocks, and holliday shout-outs from Martin Garrix and Zedd. Users could also find Snapchat’s ‘Top Tracks You May Have Missed’ and ‘Three EDM Artists to Watch in 2016’. The spotlight channel will now move on to other genres such as hip hop and country.
