As the saying goes, all good things must come to an end. Fans were informed back in August, Martin Garrix not only decided to part ways with long-time label, Spinnin’ Records, and former manager, Eelko van Kooten, but also take legal action against the two. Although Spinnin’ is credited for the beginning of what is now a very successful career for Garrix, the relationship unfortunately did not end on the best note. The 19 year-old Dutch DJ claimed he was deceived from the get-go with misleading information regarding the terms and conditions of his contract. Considering only 17 at the time of signing, it’s not hard to believe the young talent might have been without proper guidance, subsequently being taken advantage of. The shadiness eventually resulted in Garrix fighting for the rights back to his music. Even after the label attempted to make amends by agreeing to his terms, Martin decided the juice just wasn’t worth the squeeze.

Update – The Dutch DJ informed fans, as of December 3rd, he will be withdrawing his lawsuit against the label. The mediation resulted with the ownership rights being transferred back to Garrix, and in return he would grant Spinnin’ Records a temporary exclusive license for any track that was released by the label up until August 2015. Despite the on-going dispute, Garrix stated both parties will attempt to cordially resolve the matter. All other remaining issues will more than likely result in further legal action, however, they will cross that bridge when they come to it.
