The bootleg track that has been uploaded to SoundCloud under the name of ‘white ep (bootleg), in two weeks (14 days)’ uses vocals from Drake’s verses on ’30 for 30 Freestyle’ and takes the minimalist rap song and adds in new levels of production, layering it with a smooth style of ambient rap. Drake’s slower, pitched down vocals, are given plenty of room to play in Mr. Carmack’s soundscape, as quiet atmospheric pads and piano bar melodies provide structure in the background.
‘Drinks are on us’ brings in New York based producer Promnite to help make a gorgeous track, with a faster pace than the bootleg. The song samples The Weeknd’s vocals from Mike Will’s ‘Drinks On Us’ and slices them up. The resulting choppy vocals bounce delicately between The Weeknd crooning, “If you want to go to the bar, drinks on us”. The complexity in the production of the song makes every little deviation and glitch appreciable, while keeping the song cohesive and perfect for a late night chill session.
Even though getting through the next two weeks will feel like forever, these two new releases from Mr. Carmack will probably be enough to hold over everyone as they wait.
