The Game & Skrillex – El Chapo
Rapper The Game released an unexpected collaboration with dubstep kingpin Skrillex today, with the single ‘El Chapo’ acting as the first track off of The Game’s double-album release of The Documentary 2.5. Skrillex’s signature style bass is all but nonexistent, with a majority of the production seeming to come from Grammy winning producer Mr. Bangladesh (awarded for producing ‘A Milli’ for Lil’ Wayne). ‘El Chapo’ shares many qualities with Mr. Bangladesh’s other works, with high use of repetition and a bouncing brass progression. Skrillex’s sound makes a very, very small appearance, with what sounds like a grand total of 7 notes in the first minute of the song. The rest of his presence in the song comes in the form of a vocoder pitched lyric of “I am the God” which runs alongside his classic bass. The Game’s flow seems more modern than other new releases of his, with a faster pace that seems to be rushed by the tempo of the song. As a whole, ‘El Chapo’ won’t be too exciting to the dance music fan, with less than impressive usage of Skrillex’s sound and production quality.
