Flume – BBC Radio 1’s Essential Mix
Flume seems to be teasing some new music for us these days. Chet Faker recently announced that the two would be dropping a collaborative EP in the near future. This is incredibly exciting news for Flume fans, who remember the excellent Lockjaw EP between the two in 2013. Flume also has hinted at an upcoming album, saying there is “a track or two missing” in a recent interview. He discussed the versatility of his upcoming work, ranging from ambient to high energy and featuring collaborations with both stars and upcoming artists. Still, there is nothing near a discussion of a release date and an admission that he does not want to rush into anything. Flume is now taking on the BBC Radio 1 airwaves with an Essential Mix that reminds us of the excellent mixing abilities he deftly displayed on the show last year during his ‘Quest Mix’.
His mix this year is on par with his last outing, featuring a wide array of talented artists. He provides a much deserved spotlight to extremely talented artists such as Troyboi, San Holo, Jamie xx, Mura Masa and Eprom. He also features some of his own music, teasing three new IDs as well as three old releases. His IDs are the highlights of the mix, as they only serve to whet his fans’ appetite for the future releases he has in store. For now, we can take solace in this exceptional Essential Mix debut. Check out the mix and tracklist at BBC Radio 1’s website.
