What a difference one year makes. It was just last year that the The Chainsmokers were making waves online behind a slew of impressive remixes, culminating with the release of their ubiquitous first single ‘Selfie‘. Fast-forward through 2015 and the New York City hitmakers have seen their fame soar to new heights, collaborating with some of electronic music’s biggest names while crafting arguably summer’s biggest hit ‘Roses‘. While 2015 has been a breakthrough year for Alex and Drew, the duo have shown no signs of slowing down. Just weeks after the release of their festival banger ‘Split‘ with Tiesto, we’ve got more music from the pair as they embark on their six-week long FriendZone tour.
Bouquet is a five-track EP, featuring some of the their previously released singles, while also debuting their newest song, ‘New York City’. This gritty, progressive song inspires an emotional, powerful mood, supported by the raw, passionate voice of vocalist Olivia Zaro. It has all the highlights of a typical Chainsmoker song – melodic piano chords, strong vocals, and the kind of euphoric drop that the American duo are known for. The angst-filled track is a true display of the versatility of the two talented DJs, and rounds out a fantastic EP with the above-mentioned ‘Roses’, ‘Good Intentions’ alongside BullySongs, ‘Until You Were Gone’ with Tritonal and ‘Waterbed’ featuring the Los Angeles electronic-rock band Waterbed. Overall, Bouquet does a good job of showcasing the creative juggernaut that is The Chainsmokers, and is sure to impress even the most critical of listeners.
