Who better than Avicii to stand as a man of the people – the people of the dance community specifically – and fire back at intolerance and severe misunderstandings held by some of music’s veterans? Earlier today, Mr. Bergling took to his Instagram to respond to some recent commentary from Noel Gallagher, most known for his role as the lead guitarist and co-lead vocalist of Oasis. Gallagher insinuated that folks like Avicii – “The dude in the hat” – sit behind fake decks and simply “pressing play” is leading the youth of today towards a “bleak future.”
Gallaghers’ comments essentially assert the current state of the music industry (the music itself, the fall of record stores, the rise of streaming) isn’t real, commendable, or something to take pride in. That we don’t wake up being proud of our producers, that it’s all for not. He even goes as far to insult acts in his realm of music, the Arctic Monkeys, calling them “too cool for school.” Perhaps this is just an old guard who can’t keep with the times, but this sort of behavior doesn’t foster the love of music for everyone. Elitism isn’t welcome, and Avicii has made it very clear in his calm and professional statement below.
