Skrillex has revealed another collaboration, and it’s not what you think. Google unveiled a line of specialty phone cases, which are now available for select Android devices, and feature designs inspired by the universe of Skrillex. These are no ordinary cases. Not only will the specialty cases come with a shortcut button built-in that you can program to connect with Skrillex’s YouTube channel, your phone camera, or any other app, but case owners will get early access to an unannounced forthcoming record under Skrillex’s OWSLA label, as well as, Skrillex-related updates sent directly to your phone.
These so-called “Live Cases” also have an interesting feature that connects with your phone’s wallpaper. It comes with matching live wallpapers, which update throughout the day with photographic images of real-time Earth, and constellations coordinated with your current position. The shots will come from the stratosphere where a balloon satellite, named after Skrillex’s dog, is currently floating and taking pictures. Once the satellite comes back down, it will be signed by Skrillex and sent to an Android fan in a forthcoming Twitter giveaway.
The cases come in three different looks–Space Shield, Circuit Bae, and Lil Planet–and cost around $40 a pop. Compatible Android devices include the Nexus 5, Samsung Galaxy S6, Samsung Galaxy S5, and Samsung Galaxy Note 4. The cases can be purchased from the Google Store only until the end of June, or while supplies last. Skrillex may be the first, but isn’t the only artist Google plans to team up with to create future limited edition cases. See it all take flight in the video above.
