After debuting new music at last year’s Governor’s Ball, Axwell Ʌ Ingrosso are in New York City once again. This time, they’re being interviewed about what it’s like to make music after the Swedish House Mafia disbandment and what musical influences connected with them in preparation for their upcoming album.
The duo’s relationship stretches far from their days with Steve Angello. They’re making more music this time, and they know how to deal with each other. Axwell talks about the positive attributes of having someone else step in after getting bored mixing a track. He mentions how Ingrosso would “disappear with [that track] for a few weeks [and that he] would try to forget it as much as [he] can.” So Axwell will be able to hear the same track in a different light and be able to continue working on it. They are giving this partnership 100%, which apparently was not the case with their previous projects.
And when it came time to explain why the names of their new tracks ‘Something New,’ ‘Can’t Hold Us Down,’ and ‘On My Way‘ have a strong connection with their recent break from SHM, they simply dismissed the names as just being a “coincidence.” But what did inspire them, were tunes from Daft Punk to Coldplay, as well as, “the technique that Skrillex has.” Leading them to use rapper Pusha T and singers Salem Al Fakir and Vincent Pontare in the coming album.
