My Digital Enemy Vs. Missy Elliot- Freak My Bassline Soundz
Since her killer performance at the Superbowl, it seems as if Missy Elliot has been among the most popular artists to get remixed in the past month or so. My Digital Enemy takes a stab at another Missy Elliot mashup with a combination of Missy Elliot’s “Get Ur Freak On” (a gemstone of a track from the early 2000’s) with My Digital Enemy’s track “Bassline Soundz”, which was released in August of 2014. The mashup of the two genres of early 2000’s hip-hop and deep/tech house actually blends pretty nicely together. My Digital Enemy skillfully combines the samples from “Get Ur Freak On” into a true-to-form club banger (though who honestly wouldn’t get down to “Get Ur Freak On” by itself anyway?). The melody and vocals from “Get Ur Freak On” is almost perfectly incorporated into the new song with a higher tempo, well timed vocal edits, and great break beats that will keep the crowd dancing.
