It is fair to say that Sam Smith cleaned up nicely at the 57th Grammy Awards two weekends past. The 21-year old English singer and songwriter was nominated for 6 Grammy’s and walked away with a grand total of 4 in hand including Best New Artist– not too shabby for a rookie (or veteran) if I do say so myself. Smith had his first taste of stardom in October of 2012 when he was featured on Disclosure’s ‘Latch‘, to which he was then featured on Naughty Boy’s ‘La la la‘ in May 2013 earning the Brit his very first number 1 single. Smith’s most recent single ‘Lay Me Down‘ has gained quite the following already. The heart wrenching tune will easily have you sobbing in a corner with a bottle of vino- and if you have already seen the accompanying video, you know exactly what I mean.
As a Canadian, it always warms my heart when new and upcoming Canadian artists are showcased. B.C native Pomo has released his remix of Sam Smith’s ‘Lay Me Down‘ which was premiered on Smith’s soundcloud page yesterday. The multi-instrumentalist and producer (who recently accompanied Giraffage on his Canadian tour dates) has composed a more upbeat and groovy rendition of ‘Lay Me Down’. The ambidextrous producer strives to distance himself from genre distinction and it is evident that he has pulled influence from 70/80’s funk for this specific remix. Check out the talented Pomo’s remix for ‘Lay Me Down‘ below and be sure to keep tabs on this one.
