Knife Party die-hards have been waiting patiently since May for Rob Swire and Gareth McGrillen to drop their debut album, entitled Abandon Ship. However there has been a more pressing issue on their minds in recent weeks—the absence of Rob Swire at live shows. Subsequent shows following their massive closing set at the Tomorrowland Main Stage have featured only Gareth McGrillen behind the decks, leaving fans wondering what Rob Swire has been doing to keep busy. The answer: Finalizing the album.
Rob Swire answered the question on Twitter just a couple hours before McGrillen was set to throw down the penultimate set at Veld Music Festival in Toronto, Canada. The tweets, which you can see below, revealed when Swire plans to return behind the decks—after the 3rd week of August—in time for their Saturday headlining set at Electric Zoo in New York. He also clarified that Abandon Ship will be released under the Knife Party moniker and the release date will be announced at a later date. McGrillen will be spending the bulk of the next couple weeks touring in Europe, while Swire will be occupied with putting the finishing touches on the album. McGrillen has been holding down the fort fine without Swire, and there are high hopes for something special when the duo gets back in the booth together.
The answer to every “why weren’t you at [festival name here]?” question is: finishing the album. Will be at all shows after 3rd week August.
