A few days ago, Tom Petty made some negative comments about Electric Daisy Carnival. He stated that he thought the DJ’s were just “playing records” and that you, “couldn’t pay [him] to go.” Furthermore, he added that it was just a massive drug party and that would ultimately end with casualties. These statements were found to be particularly shocking, considering they came from the artist behind the songs ‘Mary Jane’s Last Dance’ and ‘Girl on LSD’. Pasquale Rotella, the mastermind behind EDC and Insomniac Events, responded in a light hearted, professional manner. Rotella related that he was confused that, “someone who played shows with Dylan and the Dead, someone who lived through and actively contributed to the counterculture era of the ’60s and ’70s — wouldn’t be so quick to drink the overhyped media Kool-Aid about our festival experience.” He went on to say that there is a ticket for Petty with his name on it if he would like to check out next year’s EDC to see what it is really all about.
