In episode five of ‘Superstar DJs with Annie Mac’, Diplo, alongside Annie Mac, reveals an exclusive dubplate remix of Madonna’s 1987 hit single, ‘La Isla Bonita.’ For those wondering what exactly a dubplate is, it is an exclusive version used in test recordings that is usually recorded by a dancehall or reggae artist. Having Madonna on board for a Major Lazer dub of “La Isla Bonita” is most definitely clutch, and with the recent rise in collaborations between electronic dance producers and pop artists, it seems almost necessary in order for a record to be a smash hit.
There has yet to be an announcement on when Madonna’s next album will drop, but we have a good feeling that it’s going to soar straight to the top once it hits the airwaves.
In an interview with Idolator, Diplo said the following:
“I love when an artist gives a producer the confidence he needs to work with them, and Madonna was very, very open-minded to my ideas. I really love that. A lot of times I’m having to sell my projects and my ideas to them, but she was down from day one. We’ve written about seven songs now, and hopefully maybe four or five will make it to the album…The last night we were just having fun, and she was like, ‘Yo, give me some of the craziest s–t you’ve got right now,’ and we literally wrote a song that night on the craziest record I had. And it worked.”
