While girls stomping around in dangerously high platform boots and twerking in crazy-patterned hot pants sometimes makes me want disco to be exiled from the EDM world, Swedish disco virtuoso Oliver Nelson restores my faith in the funky style. Garnering the favorable elements of the disco style into his new remix of Ella Henderson’s “Ghost,” Nelson’s braiding of Henderson’s reverberating vocals, a prominently syncopated beat, and the pizzazzed open high-hat is the finessed side of funk we wish our afro-wearing, moonwalking friends would level to. Though Henderson’s vocals carry an incredible powerful melody, Nelson’s almost tropical, Kygo-esque touch of disco has set an extremely high bar for the original – to be released this Wednesday, April 21st.
