Movement Electronic Music Festival, the annual celebration of “Detroit’s electronic music legacy”, has released a lineup of even more artists from across a wide variety of sub-genres. The Memorial Day Weekend non-stop party already had techno mainstays Carl Cox, Richie Hawtin, and Pete Tong on the bill (to name a few), but now the lineup is even more stacked. Legends like Green Velvet and Claude VonStroke will be playing along with young artists who have been touring like crazy recently, like Ryan Hemsworth and Julio Bashmore.
Movement promises deeper and sleeker vibes than other dance music festivals happening MDW (think of the elaborately decorated Mysteryland), but some artists on the bill seem surprising in context. Trap stars Flosstradamus and RiFF RAFF, among others, bring the Mad Decent records sound to an otherwise house and techno filled lineup. Well, variety is the spice in life, and this Phase 2 lineup sure looks flavorful. So when making Memorial Day Weekend plans, be sure to consider Movement – “a celebration of the music and culture we all love, held in the heart of the city that gave the world Techno – Detroit.”
