Martin Garrix Mistakenly Nominated for “Best Trance DJ”

Let’s play a little game: What’s the first name that pops into your head when you think ‘Trance?’ Now what’s the second, third, fourth, even fifth and sixth name that comes to mind? If at all aware of the EDM landscape, the names Above and Beyond, Armin van Buuren, Dash Berlin, or Markus Schulz – the quintessential masters of trance – should instinctively have surfaced in your brain. For those still new and scrambling in the EDM world, though with a slap on the hand, I could even grant a reprieve if Deadmau5 or Audien came to mind. Hey, they are big names and have some mesmeric songs.

But there must have been some severe confusion for Martin Garrix to adorn the International Dance Music Awards ballot for “Best Trance DJ.” Held yearly during the Winter Music Conference in Miami, the IDMA invites fans and EDM business personnel to nominate their favorite DJs in a multitude of categories such as “Best Global DJ,” “Best Indie Dance Track,” and “Best Music Event.” Globally famous for his explosive track “Animals,” unless  Garrix has a clandestine, trance alter ego the EDM world doesn’t know about, it’s clearly time for listeners to whip out ‘EDM for Dummies’ and revisit some EDM 101.

To avoid the trance family wrath, IDMA eventually took Garrix off the ballot, but the young DJ can remember his nominee for “Best Trance DJ” as a humorous faux pas by the EDM community; vote for your favorite nominees here!
