Super Bowl Sunday is one of the country’s biggest media days and some of EDM’s most prominent personalities were on display for the world to see. Going into the game, we already knew that Ellen DeGeneres would be rocking out to Dillon Francis’ ‘IDGAFOS’ for a new Beats Music ad, but we all had a pleasant surprise when ‘Masta Blasta’ was used in a commerical for Labatt, a Canadian beer maker.
Labatt wasn’t the only beer maker to cash in on EDM during the Super Bowl; Bud Light returned to the tables after a 2013 hiatus with Afrojack’s new single ‘Ten Feet Tall’, while Zedd replaced Avicii to become the poster boy for Bud Light Platinum with his new single ‘Find You.’. But that wasn’t all; in their new campaign, #upforwhatever, Bud Light got Krewella to go out to a random bar in Chelsea, NY and play their song ‘Enjoy The Ride’ live.
This Super Bowl has reaffirmed the impact that EDM is having and the marketability of the genre as a whole. Hopefully by 2015 the country will be ready for a DJ to spin at the halftime show. Can someone please call Daft Punk?
