Porter and his managers sparked a bidding war among labels by playing a nearly-complete album under high security. Ultimately, NYC-based Astralwerks (home to deadmau5 and NERVO as well as Swedish House Mafia as a group) won out because of the label’s cross-genre capacity. The ability to operate outside a strictly “EDM” space was important to the 21-year-old artist. Porter told Billboard that his next album, expected to drop sometime in 2014, “lives more in the alternative space than in the dance world.”
Astralwerks called the deal “long-term and multi-faceted,” although the extent and figures are still unknown. Porter told Billboard, “I think we were able to structure things in a way that were really favorable and kept me totally free. I have final cut on everything.”
