Do the harlem shake then do it again because Mad Decent artist Baauer’s viral hit is the most streamed track of the year according to a mid year music industry report released by Nielsen Entertainment and Billboard magazine. Not only is the ‘Harlem Shake’ responsible for keeping the Mad Decent label alive and well (thank god) but the hit is also one of the most popular songs of year. Everybody has a favorite ‘Harlem Shake’ video. Other tracks that came close to the amount of times ‘Harlem Shake’ has been streamed online are Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’ catchy tune ‘Thrift Shop’ and of course Psy’s ‘Gangnam Style.’ Streaming music is quickly becoming one of the primary ways people listen to music, with programs like Pandora, Spotify, and now iTunes attempting to do their best to cash in on that medium. Meanwhile, Baauer’s track has accumulated a whopping 438,450,000 combined audio and video streams to take the top spot. A full list of all the statistics pertaining to the report can be found HERE.
